In 2016, State Senator Otoniel “Tony” Navarrete was first elected to represent Arizona’s 30th District as State Representative. In 2018, he was elected to serves Arizona’s 30th District as State Senator. Tony serves on the Commerce, Health and Human Services, and Higher Education and Workforce Development Committees, where he continues to champion issues on education, job development, and criminal justice reforms. Outside of the Legislature, Tony serves as the Deputy Director of Promise Arizona, a nonprofit community-based organization. As Deputy Director, he works to advance policies that strengthen families and increase civic participation. Tony was born and raised to immigrant parents in West Phoenix, where he lived in a home built by his late grandfather. He attended the Isaac School District, Carl Hayden Community High School, and later earned an undergraduate degree in Urban and Metropolitan Studies from Arizona State University. Tony began to promote social justice from an early age, including breaking the cycles of poverty through his community development work at the nonprofit Neighborhood Ministries. Following years of community involvement and working closely with formally adjudicated young adults, he moved to New York to work on housing and job issues. He returned to Arizona after his mother was diagnosed with breast cancer; she now remains in remission. In his free time, Tony enjoys spending time with his family and childhood friends. Senator Navarrete has pledged to continue working with leaders throughout the state in an effort to advocate for all of Arizona’s families. |
