Committee on Appropriations

Overview

Appropriates $1,000,000 from the state General Fund (GF) to the Arizona Department of Corrections (DOC) in fiscal year (FY) 2027 for recruitment and training.

History

The DOC was established in 1968 to encompass the current and future institutions, facilities and programs that are part of Arizona's correctional program. The DOC is overseen by a Governor-appointed director who is required to be experienced in adult correctional programs and trained for managing a modern penal system. Additionally, the DOC provides supervisory staff and administrative functions at the state level of all matters relating to the institutionalization, rehabilitation and community supervision functions of all adult offenders. There are nine state prisons and six private facilities under the operation of the DOC (A.R.S. § 41-1602) (DOC, Arizona State Library; DOC Prisons).
