FACT SHEET FOR h.b. 2289

 

appropriation; State Route 24

Purpose

Appropriates $18,000,000 from the state General Fund (state GF) in FY 2024 to the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) to distribute to Pinal County for the engineering and design costs for the extension of State Route 24 (SR 24).

Background

ADOT is responsible for the design and construction of state public transportation systems and the maintenance and operation of state highways in Arizona (A.R.S. § 28-332). ADOT may contract and do all things necessary to secure the full benefits available to Arizona for transportation purposes under federal law. ADOT may cooperate with: 1) federal, state and local government agencies; 2) Indian tribes; 3) private and public organizations; and 4) private individuals. ADOT may exchange federal monies with local governments in order to receive local monies and may include additional federal monies in the exchange to offset the matching costs required of local governments (A.R.S. § 28-334).

SR 24 opened in 2014 and is currently six miles long, stretching from the Loop 202 to Ironwood Drive in Pinal County (ADOT).

H.B. 2289 appropriates $18,000,000 from the state GF in FY 2024 to ADOT to distribute to Pinal County for the engineering and design costs for the extension of SR 24.

Provisions

1.   Appropriates $18,000,000 from the state GF in FY 2024 to ADOT to distribute to Pinal County for the engineering and design costs for the extension of SR 24.

2.   Becomes effective on the general effective date.
