FACT SHEET FOR s.b. 1522

 

appropriation; transportation infrastructure; Maricopa county

Purpose

Appropriates $83,000,000 from the state General Fund (state GF) in FY 2023 to the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) for infrastructure projects.

Background

ADOT is responsible for the design and construction of state public transportation systems and the maintenance and operation of state highways in Arizona (A.R.S. § 28-332). ADOT may contract and do all things necessary to secure the full benefits available to Arizona for transportation purposes under federal law. ADOT may cooperate with: 1) federal, state and local government agencies; 2) Indian tribes; 3) private and public organizations; and 4) private individuals. ADOT may exchange federal monies with local governments in order to receive local monies and is allowed to include additional federal monies in the exchange to offset the matching costs required of local governments (A.R.S. § 28-334).

S.B. 1522 appropriates $83,000,000 from the state GF in FY 2023 to ADOT.

Provisions

1.   Appropriates monies from the state GF to ADOT in FY 2023 for the following projects:

a)   $6,000,000 for design work for State Route 303 improvements from Interstate 17 to Lake Pleasant Parkway;

b)   $9,000,000 for design work for the interchange at State Route 303 and Interstate 17;

c)    $5,000,000 for the realignment and improvement of the traffic interchange on State Route 74 at Lake Pleasant Parkway;

d)   $10,000,000 for Estrella Bridge improvements;

e)   $10,000,000 for grade separation and improvements at Val Vista 16 Drive and the Union Pacific Railroad;

f) $6,000,000 for right-of-way acquisition for State Route 30 between State Route 303 and State Route 202;

g)   $10,000,000 for design work for road widening along State Route 101 between Interstate 10 and 75th Avenue;

h)   $5,000,000 for right of way acquisition for State Route 303 between Maricopa County Route 85 and Van Buren Street;

i) $8,000,000 to the regional public transportation authority to extend fixed route bus service along Bell Road from 75th Avenue to Reema Road for service starting in 2024;

j) $4,000,000 to design improvements to the intersection of State Route 87 and McDowell Road; and

k)   $10,000,000 to widen State Route 202 from Main Street-Apache 30 Trail to Gilbert Road.

2.   Becomes effective on the general effective date.
