Purpose
Expands the definition of health care provider, as it relates to health care directives, to include licensed dentists.
Background
A health care directive is a document, such as a living will or mental health care power of attorney, that is drafted to deal with a person's future healthcare decisions. Currently, health care provider, as it relates to health care directives, includes licensed allopathic doctors, osteopathic doctors, nurses, physician assistants, hospices and organizations that render health care designed to prevent, diagnose or treat illness or injury and that employ specified licensed healthcare professionals (A.R.S. § 36-3201).
There is no anticipated fiscal impact to the state General Fund associated with this legislation.
Provisions
1. Adds licensed dentists to the definition of health care provider as it relates to health care directives.
2. Makes a technical change.
3. Becomes effective on the general effective date.
