Raquel Terán is a mother, wife, and community advocate who was born and raised in the border towns of Douglas, Arizona and Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico. Raquel served as a member in the House of Representatives from 2019 to 2021 proudly representing Legislative District 30 encompassing Central West Phoenix and Downton Glendale before being appointed to the State Senate in 2021.

For the last sixteen years, Raquel has been a vocal and active community advocate for civil, labor, immigrant, and women’s reproductive rights. Raquel has mobilized Arizonans through civic engagement and community organizing. Those efforts were used to rally against the injustices faced at the hands of former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, the defeat of SB1070 author, Russell Pearce, and protection of the Affordable Care Act.

Raquel served on the board of Chicanos Por La Causa for eight years and is a current board member of Arizona Center for Empowerment, Living United for Change and is the current Chair for the Arizona Democratic Party. Raquel has received numerous recognitions locally and nationally, among them are the Adelita Woman of the Year, Planned Parenthood Advocates of Arizona Civic Engagement Leader, 40 Under 40 Hispanic Leaders, Mom of Year by Valle Del Sol, New American Leader Award, and most recently the Secular Star Award.
