A RESOLUTION
Celebrating the 100th ANNIVERSARY of the historic route 66.

Whereas, the roads and thoroughfares that became Route 66 began as trading routes for the original inhabitants of the land, connecting peoples from time immemorial; and
Whereas, 2026 marks the momentous centennial of the establishment of U.S. Route 66, a highway that became an enduring symbol of American freedom, adventure and connectivity; and
Whereas, Route 66 has been the Mother Road for generations of Americans, immortalized in films, literature and songs; and
Whereas, Arizona is home to the longest continuously preserved stretch of Historic Route 66, a testament to the dedication of its communities in safeguarding this iconic roadway for future generations; and
Whereas, the rich history and cultural significance of Route 66, particularly within the diverse landscapes and welcoming communities of Arizona, continue to attract travelers from around the world, contributing significantly to the state's tourism and economy; and
Whereas, Arizonans and travelers from across the country and the world should feel invited to Arizona to celebrate and explore the enduring legacy of the Mother Road within our great state; and
Whereas, Route 66 has played a significant role in the history and economic development of Arizona and its communities. Multiple properties along this roadway are listed in the National Register of Historic Places, attesting to the cultural, architectural and historical significance of these properties within their communities as well as within this state and national consciousness; and
Whereas, Arizona's portion of Route 66, with its iconic landmarks, vibrant communities and colorful characters, continues to endure as a beloved travel destination, promising an authentic journey into America's past for current and future generations of adventurers and history enthusiasts alike; and
Whereas, preservation of these historic resources is essential to ensuring the promotion of Route 66 communities' shared heritage, vitality and current and future economic growth.
Therefore
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of Arizona:
That the Members of the House of Representatives recognize the 100th anniversary of Route 66 and encourage Arizonans and visitors from across the country and globe to participate in the centennial celebrations across Arizona's stretch of the Mother Road.
