ARIZONA STATE SENATE

Purpose
Subject to voter approval, constitutionally requires the Legislature to commence on the fourth Monday in January, rather than the second Monday in January.
Background
The state's legislative authority is vested in the Legislature, which consists of the Senate and House of Representatives (House). The Senate is composed of one member elected from each of the 30 legislative districts and the House is composed of two members elected from each of the 30 legislative districts. The Legislature convenes annually at the State Capitol, beginning on the second Monday of January (Ariz. Const. art 4, p. 2 § 1 and art 4, p. 2, § 3).
There is no anticipated fiscal impact to the state General Fund associated with this legislation.
Provisions
1. Requires the Legislature to commence on the fourth Monday in January, rather than the second Monday in January.
2. Makes technical changes.
3. Requires the Secretary of State to submit the proposition to the voters at the next general election.
4. Becomes effective if approved by the voters and on proclamation of the Governor.
