ARIZONA STATE SENATE

state route 69; urge renaming
Purpose
Urges the Arizona State Board on Geographic and Historic Names (ASBGHN) to divide State Route (SR) 69 into six equal sections to be renamed as outlined.
Background
The ASBGHN is responsible for receiving and evaluating all proposals to: 1) change or add to names of geographic features or places of historical significance; and 2) establish or designate a highway or area as a parkway, historic road or scenic road that is of geographic or historical significance. After evaluating a proposal, the ASBGHN must designate the most appropriate name and spelling for the geographic feature, historical place or outlined area or highway for use in maps and other official governmental documents (A.R.S. § 41-835.03).
There is no anticipated fiscal impact to the state General Fund associated with this legislation.
Provisions
1. Urges the ASBGHN to divide SR 69 into six equal sections to be renamed as follows:
a) World War I Veterans Memorial Highway;
b) World War II Veterans Memorial Highway;
c) Korean War Veterans Memorial Highway;
d) Vietnam War Veterans Memorial Highway;
e) Desert Storm Veterans Memorial Highway; and
f) Iraq and Afghanistan War Veterans Memorial Highway.
2. Directs the Secretary of State to transmit a copy of this memorial to the Chair of ASBGHN.
