ARIZONA STATE SENATE

Purpose
Appropriates $5,000,000 from the state General Fund (state GF) in FY 2027 to the Department of Public Safety (DPS) for artificial intelligence relating to border security.
Background
DPS is responsible for creating and coordinating services for use by local law enforcement agencies in protecting the public safety and for formulating plans with a view to establish modern services for the prevention of crime, the apprehension of violators, the training of law enforcement personnel and the promotion of public safety. DPS consists of four divisions: 1) Arizona Highway Patrol; 2) Narcotics Enforcement and Criminal Investigation; 3) Scientific Criminal Analysis; and 4) Training and Education (A.R.S. §§ 41-1711 and 41-1712).
S.B. 1707 appropriates $5,000,000 from the state GF in FY 2027 to DPS.
Provisions
1. Appropriates $5,000,000 from the state GF in FY 2027 to DPS for artificial intelligence relating to border security.
2. Allows DPS to distribute appropriated monies to local law enforcement agencies to enforce border security by using artificial intelligence.
3. Becomes effective on the general effective date.
