ARIZONA STATE SENATE
Fifty-Seventh Legislature, Second Regular Session
AMENDED
early voters; signature comparison; MVD
Purpose
Requires the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) to provide the Secretary of State (SOS) with a copy of an applicant's signature that was written by hand on a document.
Background
Every person who applies for a driver license or driver license renewal and who is otherwise qualified to register to vote must be allowed to register at the same time and place by providing outlined identifying information. During the registration process, ADOT must provide applicants with a statement that provides: 1) each eligibility requirement for voting, including citizenship; 2) an attestation that the applicant meets each requirement; 3) the applicant's signature, under penalty of perjury; 4) a description of the penalties for providing false voter information; and 5) a statement that an applicant's choice of whether to register to vote or not remains confidential (A.R.S. § 16-112).
There is no anticipated fiscal impact to the state General Fund associated with this legislation.
