ARIZONA STATE SENATE
Fifty-Seventh Legislature, Second Regular Session
concealed weapons permits; fees
Purpose
Caps the fee that the Department of Public Safety (DPS) may charge Arizona residents for a concealed carry weapon (CCW) application at 10 percent of the fee amount that is charged for nonresidents.
Background
Applications for CCW permits must be completed on a form prescribed by DPS. The applicant must submit the application to DPS with any other required documentation, two sets of fingerprints and a reasonable fee determined by the Director of DPS (Director). CCW permits are subject to renewal every five years, and applications for renewal must be accompanied by a separate fee determined by the Director (A.R.S. § 13-3112). The current fee for an initial CCW permit application is $60 and the current fee for a renewal application is $43 (DPS).
There is no anticipated fiscal impact to the state General Fund associated with this legislation.
Provisions
1. Caps the fee that DPS may charge Arizona residents for an initial application or renewal application for a CCW permit at 10 percent of the amount that is charged to nonresidents.
2. Specifies that the Director must determine separate fees to be charged to Arizona residents and non-Arizona residents who submit CCW permit applications.
3. Becomes effective on the general effective date.
