ARIZONA STATE SENATE

AMENDED
appropriation; Arizona trail fund
Purpose
Appropriates $100,000 from the state General Fund (state GF) in FY 2027 to the Arizona Trail Fund (Fund).
Background
The Arizona State Parks Board administers the Fund, which consists of legislative appropriations and donations for the sole purpose of maintaining and preserving the Arizona Trail.
The Arizona Trail is a state scenic nonmotorized trail that extends approximately 800 miles between the southern border and northern border of Arizona. The Arizona Trail must be planned and designed for all nonmotorized recreational uses, including hiking, biking, horseback and pack stock use, cross country skiing, snowshoeing and camping.
The Arizona State Parks Board must: 1) participate in planning,
establishing, developing, maintaining and preserving the Arizona Trail; 2)
provide information to any person involved in planning, establishing,
developing or maintaining the Arizona Trail regarding the design, corridors,
signs, interpretive markers highlighting special areas and historic uses and
any other aspect of the Arizona Trail to promote uniformity of development,
maintenance and preservation; 3) encourage counties, cities and towns to adapt
their general and comprehensive plans to preserve the trail right-of-way and to
acquire property or legal interests in property to ensure the Arizona Trail's
continued existence in a permanent location; 4) prepare a trail management plan
and a plan for interpretive markers for the Arizona Trail in cooperation with
federal and state land management agencies; and 5) complete other statutorily
outlined requirements (A.R.S.
§ 41-511.15).
S.B. 1041 appropriates $100,000 from the state GF in FY 2027 to the Fund.
Provisions
1. Appropriates $100,000 from the state GF in FY 2027 to the Fund.
2. Becomes effective on the general effective date.
Amendments Adopted by the Appropriations, Transportation and Technology Committee
· Reduces the prescribed appropriation to the Fund from $500,000 to $100,000.
