SCR 1040: justices; judges; mandatory retirement age

Overview
A constitutional amendment to raise the mandatory retirement age for justices and judges from 70 to 75 years of age.
History
Upon reaching the age of 70, any justice or judge of a court of record is required to retire and his judicial office becomes vacant. Any retired justice or judge of any court of record may serve as justice or judge of any court (Article VI, Section 20 & 39, Const. of Ariz).
Provisions
1. Raises the retirement age for justices and judges of courts of record from 70 to 75 years of age.
2. Directs the Secretary of State to submit this proposition to the voters at the next general election.
3. Makes conforming changes.
