SCR1024: legislature; district residency

Overview

A constitutional amendment that requires a member of the Legislature to be a resident of the district from which they are elected and a member of their political party, if any.

History

A member of the Legislature must be a citizen of the United States at the time of their election, be at least 25 years of age and be a resident of Arizona at least three years and be a resident of the county from which they are elected for at least one year before their election (Arizona Constitution IV Part 2 § 2).

Provisions

1.   Requires a member of the Legislature to be a resident of the district, rather than county, from which they are elected and a member of their political party, if any prior to the election.

2.   Directs the Secretary of State to submit the proposition to the voters at the next general election.
