Appropriates $1,600,000 from the state General Fund (GF) in Fiscal Year (FY) 2027 to the University of Arizona (UA) for the Yuma Center of Excellence for Desert Agriculture (YCEDA), $16,200,000 divided from the state GF in FYs 2027 through 2029 for the UA Cooperative Extension and $29,900,000 divided from the state GF in FYs 2027 through 2029 for the Arizona experiment station.
History
YCEDA is a public-private partnership connecting scientists to the desert agricultural industry. Their work focuses on issues identified by industry stakeholders, including increasing production efficiencies through disease and water management, crop yield maximization, food safety and technology utilization (YCEDA).
UA's Cooperative Extension works to assist lives and businesses in Arizona through different means, including agricultural programs. Their agricultural programs focus on increasing crop yields, reducing crop loss and enhancing food safety and quality (UA).
Established by the Hatch Act of 1887 and assisted through the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Arizona Experiment Station supports research, instruction and extension activities. The Experiment Station partners with state and regional farmers, growers and producers to support product testing, development and demonstration in collaboration with other entities, including UA Cooperative Extension, YCEDA and the College of Agriculture (UA).
