SB 1673: appropriation; crime victim notification fund
Sponsor: Senator Kavanagh, LD 3
Committee on Judiciary
Overview
Appropriates $5,000,000 from the state General Fund (GF) in Fiscal Year (FY) 2027 to the Law Enforcement Crime Victim Notification Fund (Fund) and exempts the appropriation from lapsing.
History
Laws 2022, Chapter 333 established the Fund and appropriated $3,800,000 from the state GF to the Fund.
Laws 2023, Chapter 154 moved the administration of the Fund from the State Treasurer to the Arizona Criminal Justice Commission (ACJC) and made the Fund continuously appropriated. The FY 2024 General Appropriations Act deposited an additional $10,000,000 from the state GF into the Fund. ACJC is required to use Fund monies to expand their automated crime victim notification system and fund software that enables deployment of the system to law enforcement agencies. The system must provide county-based deployment of an automated crime victim notification to automatically, without downloading a software application, notify the victim by email or text regarding a victim's law enforcement crime report, investigation and case (A.R.S. § 41-2414).
The FY 2026 General Appropriations Act appropriated $2,594,800 from the Victim Compensation and Assistance Fund to the Fund.
Provisions
