Summary on the Strike-Everything Amendment to SB 1112

Overview

Appropriates $1,000,000 from the Special Services Fund (Fund) in FY 2027 to the Arizona Department of Corrections (DOC) to establish and implement holistic studio-based rehabilitative programming and interventions.

History

DOC provides rehabilitative art and music interventions to promote well-being (Corrections Program Catalog).

The Fund consists of revenues that are generated by the inmate use of technology, including telephone systems, kiosks and tablets. The Fund is administered by DOC and may be used to benefit education and welfare of committed offenders and pay the costs of implementing, operating and maintaining technologies and programs for inmate use. DOC must submit a report by August 1 of each year to the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives that contains an account of Fund transactions from the previous year (A.R.S. § 41-1604.03).

Provisions

1. Appropriates $1,000,000 from the Fund in FY 2027 to DOC to establish and implement holistic studio-based rehabilitative programming and interventions.

2.   Directs DOC, by June 30, 2028, to submit a report to the Governor, President of the Senate and Speaker of the House on the following data:

a.   the use of appropriated monies;

b.   reduction of self-harm; and

c. disciplinary reduction and recidivism.
