A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
on the death of the honorable Mark Brnovich.
(TEXT OF BILL BEGINS ON NEXT PAGE)
Former Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich passed away on January 12, 2026 at the age of 59.
Mark Brnovich was born in Detroit, Michigan, to parents who had immigrated from the former Yugoslavia. Moving to Arizona at a young age, he grew up in Phoenix where he would later earn his bachelor's degree in political science from Arizona State University. Mark later earned his law degree from the University of San Diego, which marked the beginning of a long and distinguished career in law and government.
Mark Brnovich served at nearly every level of government, working as a prosecutor at the Maricopa County Attorney's Office, as an Assistant Attorney General with the Arizona Attorney General's Office, as an Assistant United States Attorney with the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Arizona and as Command Staff Judge Advocate in the U.S. Army National Guard. In 2009, Mark was appointed by former Governor Jan Brewer to serve as the Director of the Arizona Department of Gaming, where he headed the agency until 2013.
Mark resigned from the Department of Gaming to run for Arizona Attorney General, a position he held until 2023. During his service as Attorney General, Mark championed consumer protection in Arizona, securing over $1.5 billion in settlements and judgments for Arizona residents. He worked diligently to protect consumer privacy and data and to attain protections for Arizona's residents in such areas as automobile safety, medical accuracy and ticket sales.
Mark will long be remembered for his accomplishments as Arizona's Attorney General, as a state and federal prosecutor and as a champion of justice.
Therefore
Be it resolved by the Senate of the State of Arizona, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the Members of the Legislature express sincere regret at the passing of the Honorable Mark Brnovich and extend their deepest sympathies to his family and many friends.
