Description

HB 2292 would establish a Wildfire Prevention Authority (WPA) within the Department of Forestry and Fire Management (DFFM) to provide technical support and award grants to local governments, fire districts and non-governmental organizations for wildfire prevention. The bill would fund the WPA with an annual $20.0 million distribution from insurance premium tax revenues to a new Wildfire Prevention Authority Fund.

 

Estimated Impact

We estimate that the bill would reduce General Fund Insurance Premium Tax revenues by $(20.0) million annually beginning in FY 2027.   These monies would be deposited into a new appropriated Wildfire Prevention Authority Fund.
