ARIZONA STATE SENATE

law enforcement; first responders; honoring
Purpose
Expresses the Legislature's gratitude to all law enforcement personnel, other first responders and volunteers in the State of Arizona for their unparalleled public service.
Background
A first responder includes a peace officer, a tribal officer, a correctional officer employed by the Arizona Department of Corrections Rehabilitation and Reentry, a member of the Arizona National Guard who is on active duty in Arizona and a firefighter, fire marshal, fire inspector, emergency medical care technician or paramedic who is engaged in the execution of official duties (A.R.S. § 38-1171).
The Arizona rangers are an unpaid, noncommissioned civilian auxiliary that is available to assist and support law enforcement in Arizona on the request of, and under the direction, control and supervision of, established law enforcement officials or officers. The Arizona rangers do not possess any law enforcement or investigative powers that are not provided or established in law for any other state citizen (A.R.S. § 41-4201).
There is no anticipated fiscal impact to the state General Fund associated with this legislation.
Provisions
1. Expresses that members of the Legislature honor and express their sincere gratitude to all law enforcement personnel and other first responders in the State of Arizona.
2. Expresses that members of the Legislature recognize the rich history of Arizona's first responders and honor volunteers for their unparalleled public service.
