AN ACT

 

amending section 11-531, arizona revised statutes; relating to county attorneys.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:

Section 1. Section 11-531, Arizona Revised Statutes, is amended to read:

START_STATUTE11-531. Qualifications

A. No A person shall be is not eligible for the office of county attorney unless he The person meets all of the following qualifications:

1. Is an attorney at law.

2. Is licensed as an attorney at law and in good standing in this state.

3. Has been admitted to the practice of law in this state for at least five years next preceding taking office.

B. The board of supervisors shall not pay a salary to any person as county attorney who is not so eligible for the office as prescribed in subsection a of this section. END_STATUTE

Sec. 2. Terms of county attorneys

Notwithstanding section 11-531, Arizona Revised Statutes, as amended by this act, a person who is serving as a county attorney on the effective date of this act is eligible to continue to serve until expiration of the current term of office.
