Fifty-Sixth Legislature, Second Regular Session

FACT SHEET FOR H.B. 2210

occupational safety advisory committee; continuation

Purpose

Continues the Occupational Safety and Health Advisory Committee (ADOSH Advisory Committee) for eight years.

Background

The ADOSH Advisory Committee was established in 1972 to provide recommendations and assistance to the Industrial Commission of Arizona (ICA) in drafting occupational safety standards and regulations. The ADOSH Advisory Committee is appointed by the ICA and is composed of a reasonably balanced representation of members of regulated industries, including agriculture, labor, and others knowledgeable in safety and health. The Director of the ICA's Division of Occupational Safety and Health serves as an ex-officio non-voting member (A.R.S.
§ 23-409
).

The Senate Government Committee of Reference (COR) held a public meeting on January 17, 2024, to review and evaluate the ADOSH Advisory Committee's response to the sunset review factors and receive public testimony. The COR recommended that the ADOSH Advisory Committee be continued for two years until July 1, 2026 (COR Report). The ADOSH Advisory Committee terminates on July 1, 2024, unless continued by the Legislature (A.R.S § 41-3024.17).

There is no anticipated fiscal impact to the state General Fund associated with this legislation.

2.   Repeals the Advisory Committee on January 1, 2033.
