                        ELECTIONS COMMITTEE

DATE:            February 13, 2024

SUBJECT:      Strike everything amendment to S.B.1571, relating to campaign finance report; statewide office

Purpose

Requires a statewide candidate committee to file a campaign finance report for each quarter of the 24-month period before the general election for the office for which the candidate is seeking office.

Background

A candidate committee must file a campaign finance report during the four-calendar quarters of the 12-month period preceding a general election at which a candidate is seeking office. The campaign finance report must include for the reporting period: 1) the starting amount of cash; 2) total receipts, including contributions from political action committees, partnerships and political parties; 3) an itemized list of all disbursements exceeding $250; 4) the total sum of all receipts and disbursements; and 5) a certification by the committee treasurer that the contents of the report are true and correct. The campaign finance reports must be filed with the appropriate filing officer. For statewide and legislative elections, the Secretary of State (SOS) is the filing officer (A.R.S. Title 16, Chapter 6, Article 1.4).

There is no anticipated fiscal impact to the state General Fund associated with this legislation.
