SB 1307: constables; salaries

Overview

Raises constable salaries based on the number of registered voters in their precincts and the documents served by the constable.

History

A county Board of Supervisors (BOS) organizes a regular June meeting preceding a general election to fix the salaries of all precinct officers, other than justices of the peace. Constable salaries are regulated by statute based on the number of documents the constable serves and how many registered voters are in the constable's precinct (A.R.S. § 11-424.01).

Provisions

1.   ☐ Prop 105 (45 votes)	     ☐ Prop 108 (40 votes)      ☐ Emergency (40 votes)	☐ Fiscal NoteProvides that a county BOS must fix the salaries of constables, rather than all precinct officers other than justices of the peace. (Sec. 1)

2.   Specifies that the number of documents served, is to be calculated as reported on the constable standardized daily activity logs. (Sec. 1)

3.   Increases the annual salary of constables, in precincts with an average of 100 or fewer documents served per year, from not more than $16,500 to not more than $20,000. (Sec. 1)

4.   Increases the annual salary of constables, in precincts with an average of more than 100 documents served per year, as follows:

a)   In precincts with 5,000 or fewer registered voters, the salary increases from not more than $16,500 to not more than $20,000;

b)   In precincts with 5,000-10,000 registered voters, the salary increases from not more than $26,000, to not more than $30,000;

c)   In precincts with 10,000-12,000 registered voters, the salary increases from between $29,437 and $40,000, to between $36,000 and $45,000;

d)   In precincts with 12,000-16,000 registered voters, the salary increases from between $36,100 and $50,000, to between $41,000 and $56,000; and

e)   In precincts with 16,000 or more registered voters, the salary increases from between $48,294 and $67,000, to between $55,000 and $75,000. (Sec. 1)

5.   Defines standardized daily activity log. (Sec. 1)
