restoration; Cherrybell mail processing center

Purpose

Urges the U.S. Congress to protest the proposed closing of the Tucson Postal Processing and Distribution Center (Cherrybell mail processing center) and take any action necessary to fully restore operations of this postal facility.

Background

Cherrybell mail processing center is located in Tucson and serves the southern portion of Arizona. In 2012, the United States Postal Service determined the Cherrybell mail processing center should be consolidated with the Phoenix Processing and Distribution Center for operational and service efficiency (USPS).

There is no anticipated fiscal impact to the state General Fund associated with this legislation.

Provisions

1.   Urges the U.S. Congress to protest the proposed closing of Cherrybell mail processing center and take any action necessary to fully restore operations of this postal facility.

2.   Directs the Secretary of State to transmit copies of this memorial to the President of the U.S. Senate, the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives and Members of the
U.S. Congress from Arizona.

3.   Becomes effective on the general effective date.
