Overview

Session law that outlines regulations and procedures for the distribution of a onetime retention incentive for peace officers (POs) in the state of Arizona.

History

POs are defined as any personnel designated by the Director of the Department of Public Safety that have completed training from the Arizona Peace Officers Standards and Training Board (Board) (A.R.S. § 41-1701).

Provisions

(Sec. 1)

2.   Includes fund distribution instructions for the State Treasurer. (Sec. 1)

3.   Specifies the State Treasurer must appoint "Arizona Backs the Blue" ambassadors (ambassadors) to distribute monies to each employer. (Sec. 1)

4.   Permits the State Treasurer to use $250,000 of the appropriated money to administer the distribution of monies and to reimburse travel-related expenses of ambassadors. (Sec. 1)

5.   Specifies the use of appropriated money can only be used to supplement, not replace, other monies paid to certified POs in FY 2023. (Sec. 1)

6.   Requires all remaining unexpended and unencumbered money on July 1, 2023 to revert to the state GF. (Sec. 1)

7.   Defines certified peace officer and its exemptions. (Sec. 1)
