HB2533: tribal college dual enrollment program.

Sponsor: Representative Blackwater-Nygren, LD 7

Committee on Education

Overview

Adds that the Tribal College Dual Enrollment Program (Program) may offer specified courses to students. Expands the permissible uses of Program Fund monies.

History

Currently, ADE is required to distribute Program Fund monies to provide choice and access to higher education for Arizona high school students by compensating tribal colleges for tuition and fees that are waived to allow high school students to attend classes at tribal college campuses.

The Program Fund is administered by the Arizona Department of Education (ADE) and consists of 15% of unclaimed lottery prize monies (this amount may not exceed $325,000 in any fiscal year), legislative appropriations, gifts, grants, devises and other contributions. The state Treasurer is required to invest and divest Program Fund monies and all monies earned from investment are to be credited back to the Program Fund (A.R.S. §§ 5-568, 15-244.01).

According to ADE, Diné College, the Navajo Technical University satellite campuses located in Arizona and Tohono O'Odham Community College are currently eligible for Program Fund monies (ADE).
