Overview

Modifies the offense of misconduct involving a weapon on school grounds.

History

Statute prohibits a person from possessing a deadly weapon while on school grounds. A person who possesses a deadly weapon on school grounds commits misconduct involving weapons, a class 1 misdemeanor.

Possessing a firearm on school grounds is permissible if:

1)   It is unloaded and carried within a vehicle controlled by an adult;

2)   The vehicle is unoccupied and locked, and the firearm is unloaded and not visible from the outside;

3)   The firearm is for use in a school-approved program; or

4)   The person has a certificate of firearms proficiency and is authorized to carry a concealed weapon (A.R.S. § 13-3102).

a)   The firearm is carried within a vehicle under the control of an adult; or

b)   The vehicle is locked, and the firearm is not visible from the outside if the adult leaves the vehicle. (Sec. 1)
