FLOOR AMENDMENT EXPLANATION

 

· Extends the parental right to review and request instructional materials to parents or guardians of students attending a private school.

· Stipulates that the learning materials provided by this legislation to parents or guardians of current or incoming students are limited to learning materials in the current grade level of the student.

· Extends the parental right to be provided, upon request, with a listing of learning materials and activities used for student instruction at the school to parents or guardians of students attending a private school.

· Removes the bifurcation of learning materials and activities based on outlined topics and removes the requirement that specified learning materials shall be noted in an online listing 72 hours before use in the classroom.

· Removes the requirement that the listing of learning materials be displayed online beginning not more than seven days after the first use of each learning material or activity. Instead, requires that the listing of learning materials and activities be made available to parents or guardians upon request.

· Requires the provided listing to be searchable or sortable in an electronic format. 

· Allows the listing requirement to be satisfied by providing a copy or the full text of the lesson plans submitted to the school principal or other staff by instructors at the school in the current year, provided that any learning materials and activities are recorded on the lesson plans.

· Stipulates that a parent may not initiate legal action to enforce this section.

· Extends the outlined complaint process to enforce this section to parents or guardians of students in private school.

· Extends the parental right to access instructional and teacher training materials being used by or being considered for use by any school to parents of students attending private school.

· Removes the prohibition on the use of copyrighted materials by schools.

· Requires a school to provide temporary remote access or the provision of login credentials to at least one copy of copyrighted instructional materials for at least twenty-four hours, not to exceed one request per item per household during any thirty-day period.

· Removes the Severability Clause
