Page 4, line 42, after "2." Insert "On or before December 31, 2022,"

Line 43, after "standards" insert "and social studies standards"

After line 46, insert:

"Sec. 3. Implementation

A. Notwithstanding section 15-701.01, subsection A, paragraph 2, Arizona Revised Statutes, as amended by this act, the state board of education is not required to include in the academic standards a comparative discussion of political ideologies, such as communism and totalitarianism, that conflict with the principles of freedom and democracy that are essential to the founding principles of the United States until the state board of education next updates the social studies standards.

B. Notwithstanding section 15-718, paragraph 1, Arizona Revised Statutes, as added by this act, the state board of education is not required to work with the school of civic and economic thought and leadership at Arizona state university, the center for the philosophy of freedom at the university of Arizona and the Sandra Day O'Connor institute to develop civic education standards that school districts and charter schools must include pursuant to section 15-701.01, Arizona Revised Statutes, as amended by this act, until the state board of education next updates the social studies standards."
