A RESOLUTION

On the death of Iris McMahon.

(TEXT OF BILL BEGINS ON NEXT PAGE)

Iris McMahon of Chandler, Arizona passed away on November 7, 2021 at the age of 83.

Born on April 22, 1938 in Bloomfield, Missouri, Iris graduated from Southeastern High School in Detroit, Michigan in 1956. At the time of her death, she had spent the last 17 years working for the Arizona House of Representatives. She had excellent traditional secretarial skills, which she perfected during the era of the steno pad and IBM Selectric Typewriter, making her the ultimate proofreader, letter drafter and grammar detective and the best seatmate that any administrative assistant could ask for.

Iris moved offices throughout her employment at the House of Representatives and would arrange for the Sergeant at Arms to come to the new office and tie a necktie at the mirror in order to test the height so that it would be correctly placed for Representative Weninger.

The consummate patron, Iris loved to attend musical concerts and spared no expense for the best seats. She cultivated friends everywhere she went and before each workday, she enjoyed early meetings with coworkers to share stories over coffee.

Iris was organized in every facet of her life. From her office to her home to the trunk of her car, everything was in its place and every item had a current and useful function. She was a "common sense barometer" for people to compare themselves to, and many people valued her opinion and appreciated how she would steer any inquiry to the right and correct conclusion.

In her free time, Iris enjoyed reading, watching movies, baking, decorating and enjoying a good Starbucks coffee. Her positive attitude and zest for life will live on in her close friends and family.

In addition to her many friends and work family, Iris is survived by two brothers, Lee and Robert, two children, Alan and Christi, three grandchildren, Tyler, Tabitha and Tanner, and two great-grandchildren, Varick and Camryn.

Therefore

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of Arizona:

That the members of the House of Representatives sincerely regret the passing of Iris McMahon and will whole-heartedly miss her genuine warmth, spirit and infectious smile that she brought to work every day.
