border patrol
Purpose
Commends the courage, dedication and sacrifice of the men and women of the U.S. Border Patrol and recognizes the vital role they play in safeguarding Arizona and the United States.
Background
U.S. Code requires the U.S. Border Patrol to: 1) serve as the law enforcement office of U.S. Customs and Border Protection with primary responsibility for interdicting persons attempting to illegally enter or exit the United States or goods being illegally imported into or exported from the United States at a place other than a designated port of entry; 2) deter and prevent the illegal entry of terrorists, terrorist weapons, persons and contraband; and 3) carry out other duties and powers prescribed by the Commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (6 U.S.C. § 211).
There is no anticipated fiscal impact to the state General Fund associated with this legislation.
Provisions
1. Commends the courage, dedication and sacrifice of the men and women of the U.S. Border Patrol and recognizes the vital role they play in safeguarding Arizona and the United States.
2. Requires that the Secretary of State transmit copies of the resolution to the U.S. President and each member of the U.S. Congress from Arizona.
