appropriation; college of mining

Purpose

            Appropriates $4,000,000 from the state General Fund (state GF) in FY 2022 to the University of Arizona (UA) for a School of Mining.

Background

            The Department of Mining and Geological Engineering (MGE) is facilitated inside the College of Engineering at UA. MGE offers four bachelor's degrees relating to mining which include: 1) mine operations; 2) geomechanics; 3) sustainable resource development; and 4) mineral processing (UA).

            S.B. 1788 appropriates $4,000,000 from the state GF in FY 2022 to UA.

Provisions

1.   Appropriates $4,000,000 from the state GF in FY 2022 to UA for costs associated with a School of Mining including operation and expansion costs, staff and student support, learning infrastructure and student outreach.

2.   Becomes effective on the general effective date.
