FACT SHEET FOR S.B. 1558

 

appropriation; Ganado School Loop Road.

Purpose

            Appropriates $908,300 from the state General Fund (state GF) in FY 2022 to the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) for the construction repairs and upgrades of County Road C-420 Ganado School Loop Road.

Background

            ADOT is responsible for the design and construction of state public transportation systems and the maintenance and operation of state highways in Arizona (A.R.S. § 28-332). ADOT is permitted to contract and do all things necessary to secure the full benefits available to Arizona for transportation purposes under federal law which includes cooperation with: 1) federal, state and local government agencies; 2) Indian tribes; 3) private and public organizations; and 4) private individuals (A.R.S. § 28-334).

            The county board of supervisors (county BOS) may spend public monies for maintenance of public roads and streets other than legally designated state and county highways located outside the limits of an incorporated city or town (A.R.S. § 28-6705). The county BOS may levy a real and personal property tax of not more than .25 cents per $100 of property in the county for road purposes (A.R.S. § 28-6712). If approved by the voters at a countywide election, a county may also levy and collect a transportation excise tax not exceeding 10 percent of the state transaction privilege tax rate (A.R.S. § 42-6107).

            Ganado, Arizona is located in Apache County (ADOT Maps).

            S.B. 1558 appropriates $908,300 from the state GF in FY 2022 to ADOT.

Provisions

1.   Appropriates $908,300 from the state GF in FY 2022 to ADOT to distribute to Apache County for the construction repairs and upgrades of County Road C-420 Ganado School Loop Road.

2.   Becomes effective on the general effective date.
