Overview

Declares Sierra Vista the official hummingbird capital of Arizona.

History

Located in southeastern Arizona, Sierra Vista is adjacent to Fort Huachuca and has an estimated population of 43,045 people as of July 1, 2019 (U.S. Census Bureau). Every year, 15 species of hummingbirds and more than 300 other bird species visit its nearby canyons, forests and riverbanks (Sierra Vista Visitor Center).

On December 10, 2020, the Sierra Vista City Council adopted a resolution that requests the Arizona State Legislature to pass a resolution designating Sierra Vista as the Hummingbird Capital of the United States (Res. 2020-078).

Arizona state emblems are outlined under Title 41, Chapter 4.1, Article 5, which includes the state fossil, state bird, state flower, state tree, state neckwear, state gemstone, state animals, state butterfly, state nickname, state firearm, state metal, state mineral, state dinosaur and state drink.
