Overview

Appropriates $948,400 from the state General Fund (GF) in FY 2022 to the Department of Veterans’ Services (ADVS) to hire additional benefits counselors.

History

ADVS provides direct services to veterans through the administration of 19 veterans benefit offices throughout Arizona. Additionally, ADVS connects veterans with their VA benefits and provide short and long-term care with two skilled-nursing Veterans’ Home facilities. The duties of ADVS includes:

1)   Assisting Veterans and their families and dependents in presenting, providing and establishing claims, privileges, rights and benefits they may have;

2)   Informing Veterans and their families and dependents and military civilian authorities about federal, state and local laws enacted to benefit them;

3)   Collecting information relating to services and facilities available to veterans;

4)   Cooperating with all government and private agencies receiving services for or benefits to Veterans;

5)   Conducting administrative reviews and, if possible, correct abuses or prevent exploitation of Veterans and their families and dependents and recommend corrective legislation; and

6)   Entering into agreements with Veteran’s organizations in this state holding a charter granted by Congress of the United States for the beneficial interest of Veterans (A.R.S. § 41-603).
