HB 2098: missing children; mandatory reporting

Sponsor:  Representative Jermaine, LD 18

Committee on Health & Human Services

Overview

Requires a law enforcement agency to submit a report of a missing child to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).

History

Founded in 1984, NCMEC is a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation and its mission is to help find missing children, reduce child sexual exploitation and prevent child victimization. NCMEC works with families, victims, private industry, law enforcement and the public to assist with preventing child abductions, recovering missing children and providing services to deter and combat child sexual exploitation.

Upon receiving a report or information indicating a child is at risk and the child's location is unknown, DCS must notify the appropriate law enforcement agency and provide the required information needed for the law enforcement agency to immediately make a record entry into the Arizona Crime Information Center and the National Crime Information Center Missing Person Databases (A.R.S. § 8-810).
