SENATE BILL 1514

AN ACT

providing for emergency shelter beds for the department of housing.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:

Section 1. Arizona department of housing; emergency shelter beds

The Arizona department of housing shall provide emergency shelter beds in western Maricopa County to shelter and serve homeless seniors who are at least fifty-five years of age.  The department shall contract with a single Arizona nonprofit provider that meets all of the following:

1. Has experience in sheltering four hundred or more homeless individuals nightly in temporary shelter.

2. Has at least ten years of experience working with the most chronically homeless individuals in Maricopa County.

3. Has experience in providing housing placement services under the housing first model.

4. Participates in the coordinated entry system pursuant to the requirements of the Maricopa continuum of care.
