border wall funding
Purpose
Urges the U.S. Congress to enact the Fund and Complete the Border Wall Act (Act) or similar legislation.
Background
The Act directs the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (U.S. DHS) to design and install physical barriers, roads and technology along the U.S.-Mexico border and achieve operational control of the border by December 31, 2019 (H.R. 6657). The Act also establishes the Secure the Southern Border Fund to provide funds to the U.S. DHS to construct a barrier along the U.S.-Mexico international border and mandates that the U.S. DHS annually provide the U.S. Department of State with the number of apprehensions and nationality of individuals who illegally enter the United States through the U.S.-Mexico border.
There is no anticipated fiscal impact to the state General Fund associated with this legislation.
Provisions
1. Urges the U.S. Congress to enact the Act or similar legislation.
2. Directs the Arizona Secretary of State to transmit copies of this memorial to the President of the U.S. Senate, the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives and each member of the U.S. Congress from Arizona.
