FACT SHEET FOR H.C.M. 2001

 

deported veterans; medical treatment

Purpose

            Urges the U.S. Congress to enact legislation that would provide medical treatment and other benefits for all veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces, including those who have been deported and requests that the Secretary of State send copies of the memorial to proper recipients listed.

Background

According the Veterans Benefits Administration, there are a variety of benefits available to veterans that include disability compensation, pensions, education, training and health care. The Department of Defense states that about 5,000 legal permanent resident aliens enlist each year.

            There is no anticipated fiscal impact to the state General Fund associated with this legislation.

Provisions

1.      Urges the U.S. Congress to enact legislation that would provide medical treatment and other benefits for all veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces, including those who have been deported.

2.      Directs the Secretary of State to transmit copies of this memorial to the President of the U.S. Senate, the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives and each member of Congress from Arizona.

3.      Becomes effective on the general effective date.
