History

The Board licenses and regulates administrators and managers of nursing care institutions and assisted living facilities. A few of the Board's responsibilities include prescribing standards for assisted living facility training programs; adopting rules for the examination and certification of assisted living facility managers; and granting, denying, suspending, revoking approval of, or placing on probation an assisted living facility training program (A.R.S. § 36-446.03).

A.R.S. § 36-446 currently defines an assisted living facility training program as including 1) training required for assisted living facility manager certification; and 2) training required by DHS for assisted living facility caregivers.

Provisions

1.       Modifies the assisted living facility training program from including training required by the Department of Health Services (DHS) to including training outlined by the Board. (Sec. 1)

2.       Requires an individual to successfully complete either of the following for certification as an assisted living facility caregiver:

a.       62 hours of on-the-job training under the direct supervision of the outlined health professionals and pass the Board required examination with a score of at least 75%; or

b.       the Board's required curriculum and examination for assisted living facility caregiver certification. (Sec. 2)

3.       Directs the Board to prescribe standards by rule for the on-the-job training for certification as an assisted living facility caregiver. (Sec. 2)
