History

The Arizona Department of Transportation is responsible for planning, constructing and maintaining the State's transportation system (A.R.S. Title 28).

County, city and town street and highway projects are currently funded primarily through distributions from the Highway User Revenue Fund, county transportation excise taxes, other local sources of funding and federal monies.

Provisions

1.       Appropriates $60 million in from the GF in FY 2020 to the Arizona Department of Transportation for distribution to counties, cities and towns for street or highway projects.

a.       Distributes $30 million of the appropriation as follows:

i.         $1,500,000 to each county; and

ii.       The remainder to be distributed proportionally to each county based on population.

b.       Distributes $30 million of the appropriation as follows:

i.         $150,000 to each city or town; and

ii.       The remainder to be distributed proportionally to each city or town based on population. (Sec. 1)

2.       Instructs the ADOT to use the 2017 population estimates from the US Census Bureau. (Sec. 1)

3.       Limits the use of the monies distributed to street or highway projects, including maintenance. (Sec. 1)
