AN ACT
amending title 41, chapter 4.1, article 3, Arizona Revised Statutes, by adding section 41‑837.02; relating to historical names.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:
Section 1. Title 41, chapter 4.1, article 3, Arizona Revised Statutes, is amended by adding section 41-837.02, to read:
41-837.02. Charles Keating IV Peak
A. Notwithstanding any other law, the peak located in the Estrella Mountain regional park at approximately 33° 17' 38.5" North -112° 19' 46" West is known and shall be designated as "Charles Keating IV Peak".
B. All official acts, state records, documents and papers executed after the effective date of this section relating to the peak shall bear the designation "Charles Keating IV Peak".
Sec. 2. Charles Keating IV Peak; dedication
When dedicating the Charles Keating IV Peak, Maricopa County Parks Department shall recognize that:
1. The Sierra Estrella Mountain Range is a sacred place and the traditional cultural property of the Gila River Indian Community.
2. The Sierra Estrella Mountain Range is of high priority to the Gila River Indian Community and the cultural heritage of the Akimel O'otham (Pima) and the Pee-Posh (Maricopa) people and has a unique cultural and spiritual significance to this community.
3. The people of this state are grateful for the cultural contributions of this native tribe to this state's rich heritage.
Sec. 3. Legislative intent
The legislature intends that the highest peak in the Estrella Mountain Regional Park be named in honor of United States Navy SEAL Charles H. Keating IV, who gave the ultimate sacrifice in Iraq on May 3, 2016 supporting the war against ISIS and who should be recognized for his tremendous service to the United States of America.
