AN ACT

 

amending Title 35, chapter 2, article 1, Arizona Revised Statutes, by adding section 35-303; relating to public monies.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:

Section 1.  Title 35, chapter 2, article 1, Arizona Revised Statutes, is amended by adding section 35-303, to read:

START_STATUTE35-303.  Publicly financed stadiums and multipurpose facilities; disparaging terms and logos; prohibition; definitions

A.  A stadium or multipurpose facility that is or was acquired, constructed, financed, leased or maintained with public monies shall prohibit the use or display of a term or logo within the stadium or multipurpose facility if the tribal council of any federally recognized native American tribe with lands located in whole or in part in this state notifies the operator of the stadium or multipurpose facility in writing that the term or logo is disparaging to native Americans.

B.  For the purposes of this section:

1.  "Multipurpose facility":

(a)  Means any facility in this state that is suitable to be used to accommodate professional sports franchises or intercollegiate athletic events, major college football bowl sponsors, other sporting events and entertainment, cultural, civic, meeting, trade show or convention events or activities.

(b)  Includes a stadium, an on-site infrastructure, a parking garage or lot and any related commercial use within the facility.

2.  "Stadium" means a sports facility or facilities in this state that are designed to accommodate but are not limited to professional athletic events or intercollegiate athletic events. END_STATUTE
