amending Title 15, chapter 14, Arizona Revised Statutes, by adding article 14; relating to postsecondary educational institutions.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:

Section 1.  Title 15, chapter 14, Arizona Revised Statutes, is amended by adding article 14, to read:

ARTICLE 14.  NONLETHAL WEAPONS

START_STATUTE15-1899.  Nonlethal weapons; possession on campus; definitions

A.  A community college under the jurisdiction of a community college district governing board, a university under the jurisdiction of the Arizona board of regents and a private postsecondary institution that receives any type of public monies for any purpose may not prohibit the possession of a nonlethal weapon by any person who is present on the campus of the community college, university or private postsecondary institution.

B.  For the purposes of this section:

1.  "Nonlethal weapon" means a weapon that is explicitly designed and developed to incapacitate or repel a person with a low probability of fatality or permanent injury or to disable equipment with minimal undesired damage or impact on the environment.

2.  "Public monies" means public monies or tax monies of this state or any political subdivision of this state or any federal monies that pass through the state treasury or the treasury of any political subdivision of this state. END_STATUTE
