appropriation; Arizona water protection fund

 

Purpose

 

Appropriates $400,000 from the state General Fund (GF) to the Arizona Water Protection Fund (AWPF) for FY 2019.

 

Background

 

The AWPF provides funding for projects that protect, restore and ensure the quality of the state’s rivers, streams and riparian habitats, including the fish and wildlife resources dependent on those habitats (A.R.S. § 45-2101). The AWPF is administered by the Arizona Water Protection Fund Commission (A.R.S. § 45-2111).

 

The primary source of funding for the AWPF is from an in-lieu fee tax collected from the Central Arizona Project. Other potential funding sources are from private gifts, grants or donations (AWPF).

           

S.B. 1039 appropriates $400,000 from the state GF in FY 2019 to the AWPF.

 

Provisions

 

1.      Appropriates $400,000 to the AWPF from the state GF in FY 2019.

 

2.      Becomes effective on the general effective date.
