FUNCTION OF THE State BOARD FOR CHARTER SCHOOLS:

The State Board for Charter Schools (Board) exercises general supervision over charter schools that are sponsored by the Board and recommends legislation pertaining to charter schools to the Legislature. The Board also grants charter status to qualifying applicants for charter schools; determines and delegates policies of the Board to the Superintendent of Public Instruction; and prepares budgets for expenditures necessary for the proper maintenance of the Board (A.R.S. §15-182).

To be eligible for this position, an appointee must be a member of the general public (A.R.S. §15-182).
