FUNCTION OF THE state board of appraisal:
Pursuant to A.R.S. § 32-3605, the Board of Appraisal (Board) is required to prescribe standards of professional appraisal practice, criteria for certification and criteria for licensing. The Board is also required to establish the examination specifications for state certified appraisers and state licensed appraisers and to define, by rule, the continuing education requirements for the renewal of licenses or certificates.
STATUTORY REQUIREMENTS FOR POSITION:
Pursuant to A.R.S. § 32-3604, the Board is composed of nine Governor appointed members, subject to Senate confirmation. Four Board members are state certified or state licensed appraisers, one of whom is a state certified general appraiser, one of whom is a state certified residential appraiser, one of whom is a state licensed appraiser, and one of whom is any state certified or state licensed appraiser. Three Board members are not related in the third degree to any real estate appraiser. One member is a registered property tax agent and another member is not a certified or licensed appraiser and is employed by a lending institution that purchases or makes use of either commercial or residential appraisals and whose position of employment relates to the use of appraisals by that institution. Members serve staggered, three-year terms.

SALARY OR OTHER COMPENSATION:
Pursuant to A.R.S. § 32-3604, members are eligible to receive compensation not to exceed $150 for each day in Board service or $75 for each part of a day consisting of less than four hours spent in Board service. Members are eligible for reimbursement of expenses.
BUDGET AND FTES:
Approved Operating Budget FY 2011 – $616,600 appropriated from the Board of Appraisal Fund.
