A RESOLUTION
on the death of deputy jason patrick lopez.
(TEXT OF BILL BEGINS ON NEXT PAGE)
Deputy Jason Patrick Lopez passed away on May 4, 2001 at the age of twenty-six.
After graduating from Florence High School, Jason Patrick Lopez joined the Pinal County Sheriff’s Department as a detention officer in 1995. In 1999, he was promoted to deputy sheriff, following in the footsteps of his father, a twenty-three year veteran Pinal County deputy sheriff. On May 4, 2001, he was attempting to arrest a man on a felony warrant when he was shot in the arm and neck. Deputy Lopez died of his injuries a short time later.
Throughout his short but exemplary career in the law enforcement profession, Deputy Lopez distinguished himself as a hardworking, enthusiastic and conscientious employee. As he faced the risks inherent in his line of work, he remained committed to preserving and protecting the public peace and safety of all citizens. It is fitting that the citizens of this state recognize the tremendous service and sacrifice of Deputy Lopez who gave his life in the line of duty.
Deputy Lopez will be greatly missed by his family and many friends as well as his colleagues at the Pinal County Sheriff’s Department.
Therefore
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of Arizona:
That the Members of the House of Representatives sincerely regret the passing of Deputy Jason Patrick Lopez and extend their deepest sympathies to his wife, Corina, sons, Jason and Michael, father, Mike Lopez, mother, Linda Bowdish, and other surviving family members.
UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTED BY THE HOUSE JANUARY 22, 2002.
FILED IN THE OFFICE OF THE SECRETARY OF STATE JANUARY 22, 2002.
